But Does it Float

“Through our eyes, the universe is perceiving itself.” —Alan Watts. In 2008, we launched But Does it Float as an ongoing visual conversation—pairing tightly curated image sequences with sparse, catalytic text to surface pattern, meaning, and wonder in the stream. The project sat between blog and exhibition: a browser-native gallery where the cadence of captions set the rhythm for looking.
Over time it became a touchstone for designers and artists online—“an art blog that sits widely outside both the worlds of contemporary art and ubiquitous blogdom,” as Art in America put it. Others called it a “dynamic visual conversation.”
